A free online metronome for beginner drummers. Set your tempo, hear the first beat, and practise in 3/4, 4/4 or 6/8 with visible beat groups and subdivisions.
No account needed. Sound starts when you press Play. Keep this tab visible while practising.
Begin at 70 BPM. Play one drumstick stroke on the snare with each main beat for eight bars. Then alternate right and left strokes. Keep the strokes even as you gradually increase the tempo. Tap tempo sets the metronome to the pace you enter.
In 4/4, count four quarter-note beats: 1, 2, 3, 4. In 3/4, count three: 1, 2, 3. Select two clicks per beat in 3/4 to hear six eighth notes grouped in pairs: 1-and, 2-and, 3-and. Then choose 6/8 to hear six eighth notes grouped in threes: 1-and-a, 2-and-a. The circles show main beats; the dots show the clicks within each beat. BPM counts quarter notes in 3/4 and 4/4, but dotted-quarter notes in 6/8. Keeping the same BPM keeps the main pulse steady; it does not keep the eighth notes at the same speed.
Use the pulse with our free warm-up or paradiddle exercise. These short routines show which hand to play and give you a practical next step.
